In the 60s as a teen, i enjoyed dancing to cha chas, mambos, corridos, and cumbias at dances and family parties, but would get very offended on Sunday afternoons when Mama and my stepdad, Herb, wanted to listen to KWKW or their old school Mexican music on the stereo.

Now when i hear that music, i feel a warm rush of nostalgia for those days. I would give anything to be listening to them with Mama and Herb right now!

Okay, so my friend Michele has a florist, G ROSSI at 7th & J and hangs my paintings there when they are not in a gallery and just because they look so snazzy with her gorgeous arrangements. I just had a show at the Beatnik Studios and was featured in Sacramento Magazine February 2011.

Journey to an Alien World

The following Excerpts from the ongoing “Journey to an Alien World” (An Autobiography by Mike Coronado) answer the questions and cover the events and times in a chronological order of the pioneer Latin Rock band The Aliens. This article is dedicated to the memory of my late brother William Coronado, and his family.

Background:

Working for the Smithsonian Institution's Office of Protection Services, one of my most memorable moments, aside from meeting my wife, was the 150th anniversary.   As part of the multiple celebrations, there was a concert that I was determined to work and secure the post that provided me with a direct view to the stage.  As the performers began to arrive at the Smithsonian Castle, I had a chance encounter with the legendary Celia Cruz, her husband Pedro Knight and José Alberto, known as "el canario."  We exchange pleasantries, Ms.

I’ve been surrounded by music at an early age growing up in Puerto Rico, music played daily throughout the neighborhood, several family members were musicians and Mother would sing the ballads of her childhood in Cuba.   By the age of ten I began developing an ear for rhythms, soon my surroundings began serving as instruments.  There were bands in almost every neighborhood and every Sunday, two blocks from my house in Ponce, the 2nd largest band in Puerto Rico, La Sonora Ponceńa, rehearsed every Sunday.
