Daddy Yankee  [1977- ]

Ramón "Raymond" Luis Ayala Rodríguez was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where he became immersed as a teenager in the underground music scene and took the stage name Daddy Yankee.

His first album, No Mercy, recorded in 1994, was strongly influenced by Jamaican dance hall, as was the underground scene generally.  In 2004 he had a megahit with La Gasolina from the CD Barrio Fino, which popularized reggaetón with new audiences in the U.S. and Latin America and helped make him one of the biggest-selling reggaetón artists.
